ALGORITHMIC DRAWINGS AND FILMS
Concept & Process

Artists utilizing algorithms as generators of aesthetic forms often encounter unintended results that inspire hours playing and experimentation. Like mathematics and music, code is a rigid system of notation that provides a structure for an infinite variation of intuitive and expressive possibilities. In that context, the ephemeral, complex, and layered forms here emerged from studies of structures in nature. The films are extensions of the narratives that emerged during the rendering process.

Film Preview:
Here are 10 stills from a 20 minute looped installation. The film lingers in the threshold between moving and still image, a slow accumulation of millions of lines delicately layering. Bret Schneider is composing sound for the installation.
